The Forestis experience begins the moment the reservation is confirmed. A dedicated team starts preparing a highly personalized stay, taking into account details such as pillow preferences, robe sizes, favorite activities, preferred schedules, special meals, and thoughtful amenities.

Arriving at Forestis is, in itself, an exercise in slowing down. As the road winds its way up the slopes of the Dolomites, the bustle of everyday life gradually fades and nature takes center stage, with the dramatic mountain landscape along the border of Italy and Austria unfolding before your eyes.

At approximately 1,800 meters above sea level, surrounded by forests and offering breathtaking views of the snow‑capped peaks of this Unesco World Heritage site, the hotel emerges as an absolute retreat — a place where time seems to adopt a different rhythm. A mineral water spring located right in the reception area immediately signals the philosophy of the property. Here, luxury reveals itself in a sober and understated way.

Hotel manager Ruth Messing welcomes us and shares part of the property’s history, which is part of the portfolio of Small Luxury Hotels of the World™, a collection of exclusive and independent luxury properties. Few would imagine that, at the beginning of the 20th century, this same site housed a sanatorium where doctors from the Austro‑Hungarian Empire treated patients with respiratory conditions. The therapeutic qualities of pure air, crystal‑clear water, and the alpine climate were already well known and sought after at the time. “A century later, the philosophy of care and well‑being is still present. But now it has been transformed into a pure wellness experience,” she explains.

The historic building, which houses the reception and some of the rooms, stands alongside three contemporary towers with minimalist lines inspired by the tree trunks of the surrounding forest.

All accommodations offer views of the Dolomites. Opened in 2020, Forestis features 62 suites, including Tower Suites and Penthouses.“Every accommodation was carefully designed so that the exterior becomes the true protagonist,” says Messing.

Upon entering our suite, attention is immediately drawn to the mountains, creating the sensation of being literally suspended between sky and forest, with snow‑covered peaks signaling the end of this last winter.

The architecture encourages guests to truly immerse themselves in contemplation and silence — a luxury that has become increasingly rare. Sleeping in this silence and waking up to such a landscape is deeply restorative. It is a singular experience, and one that can feel almost disconcerting for those accustomed to large urban centers.

Wellness is at the heart of everything. The Forestis spa, with nearly 2,000 square meters, is not an accessory but a destination in itself. It's a true ritual. Inspired by ancient Celtic wisdom and the four natural elements: water, air, sun, and forest.

The heated stone pool, filled with pure water from Mount Plose, flows seamlessly between indoor and outdoor areas. Guests swim quite literally in front of the Dolomites.

Teas, nuts, fresh and dried fruits, and, of course, mineral water straight from the Plose spring are available throughout the day. A yoga studio, fitness area, saunas, and dedicated spaces for massages and treatments using local herbs turn the spa into a complete and deeply local experience. Leaving it to head to dinner is no easy task.

When we do arrive at the restaurant, the first impact is its amphitheater‑style design, with semi‑circularly arranged tables facing the Dolomites, which serve as the evening’s opening act.

Arriving early is recommended to fully admire the view. Another thoughtful detail is that guests have a reserved table throughout their stay. From breakfast to dinner, your place is always waiting complete with a personalized welcome card.

The second act belongs to the cuisine, centered on the concept of “forest cuisine,” created by chef Roland Lamprecht. The menu highlights local ingredients, often foraged in the surrounding area and harvested the same day.

Guests can choose from à la carte options or a chef’s tasting menu that changes daily according to seasonal availability.

All are prepared with conscious use of natural resources and deep respect for the nature.

Perhaps this is why Forestis welcomes only guests aged 14 and over. The decision reflects a desire to preserve tranquility.“Silence and peace are the true luxuries here,” explains general manager Günther Kofler. At the end of the stay, one leaves with the sensation of breathing more freely, sleeping more deeply, and living with greater presence.

At Forestis, the mountains are not merely a backdrop. They dictate the rhythm, the silence, and the essence of the experience. More than a hotel, it is a contemporary sanctuary — where luxury means leaving behind noise, haste, excess, and stress, in a setting that naturally restores the value of time.
